James L. Zech, JD


James L. Zech, JD, is a Director of Optisure Risk Partners, and has been involved with the insurance industry for more than 25 years. In 1995, Jim co-founded High Ridge Capital LLC, a boutique insurance-oriented private equity firm.  Jim has served as President of High Ridge since its formation.

Jim brings considerable Director experience to Optisure having previously served as a Director of Max Re Capital, the James River Group, Eastern Insurance Holdings, Acordia, Inc., Old American Holdings, SelectQuote, Inc. and Insurance Data Systems. From 2005 to 2010, Jim was a partner of Northaven Management, Inc., and its affiliated entities.  Northaven invests in the publicly traded and private securities of financial services firms.  Jim also previously served as the Chief Executive Officer and President at Kinloch Holdings, Inc.

From 1988 through 1995, prior to founding High Ridge, Jim was an Investment Banker with S.G. Warburg & Co. Inc. and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation, covering the insurance industry. During his investment banking career, he was involved with a wide variety of financial transactions for insurance companies including public and private equity and debt offerings, buy-side and sell-side advisory assignments, joint ventures, fairness opinions and valuation assignments. Transactions representative of his experience include: the initial public offering of Philadelphia Consolidated Holdings Corporation; several secondary offerings of common stock of MBIA Inc.; the public offering of senior notes in Integon Corporation; the sale of Chartwell Re Corporation to an investor group led by Wand Partners; the acquisition of the Home Insurance Company by Trygg-Hansa; the investment by AEGON in a banc assurance joint venture with Banamex (the largest bank in Mexico); and the sale of CIGNA Re’s international business to The St. Paul Companies.

Jim holds a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School, and a Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of Law.
